The Catholic Church always welcomes new members into its community. The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the liturgical process in which interested adults may explore Catholicism over time in a friendly, relaxed environment.
OCIA is for:
Those who just want to learn more about the Catholic Faith
Those who are not baptized, leading to the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
Those baptized in a Christian tradition who wish to come into full communion with the Catholic Church.
Those baptized in the Catholic tradition who wish to complete their initiation through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.
OCIA is a time set aside each week to grow in our understanding of ourselves and our faith, addressing beliefs of the Catholic Faith and answering your questions. These meetings, together with the experience of worshiping with the St. Anne faith community, can help you find your spiritual home.
The St. Anne Parish Community invites you to grow with us as a people of faith in the Roman Catholic tradition. Come and See!
OCIA meets once a week on Tuesday evenings in the Parish Hall.
If you are interested in the OCIA, please contact Mel Murray, Director of Adult Faith Formation and OCIA, at [email protected] or 409-832-9963, ext. 126.
OCIA Team and Sponsors –
Catholics who would like to learn more about and share their faith and enrich their spiritual lives are invited to volunteer for St. Anne’s OCIA Team. The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is a parish community ministry that requires a number of helping hands to bring the faith to the people of God.
The OCIA team members journey with the Candidates and Catechumen. They attend weekly meetings, and may help lead small group discussions. Some team members also serve as sponsors. Most importantly, team members are a witness to their faith and are an important link to the parish community.
To be a team member you should be a fully initiated, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church. You should have a love for the Catholic faith and a desire and willingness to share it with others.
An OCIA sponsor is a person willing to be a friend, witness, companion, and guide for an individual seeking Christian initiation. Time commitment includes attendance at weekly evening sessions with the candidate for the duration of his/her participation in the OCIA process as well as attending Sunday Masses as the candidate progresses through the rites.
If you are interested in volunteering with the OCIA, please contact Mel Murray, Director of Adult Faith Formation and RCIA, at [email protected] or 409-832-9963, ext. 126.
